Where eye-catching art and antiques meet the finest original details in a 13th century castle. Each bearing the name of a planet, the guest rooms of Domaine Des Etangs are truly one-of-a-kind spaces straight out of an ancient tale, transporting us into a dream made reality. Accessible Rooms Available.
At the top of one of the Château’s ancient towers, the beams of the roof line lead you to a luxurious cocoon of wooden floors, soft carpet, and warm light. History anchors this room with the turret’s wooden beams viewed through the glass ceiling, while a modern installation of globe sculptures placed in front of a corner mirror refract light and create a constellation like connection. Globe lamp and wall fixtures by Hans Agnejakobsson illuminate the stone walls, while a decorative fireplace and pastel purple hued leather trunks add warmth and depth.
Leather and velvet, stone and wood—the Mars room is named for the god of war, but you’ll find a profound sense of harmony comes with these natural materials. This room is charming in its simplicity which is punctuated by an ancient window with a view onto the garden that brings a bit of nature indoors. The wooden-beamed roof and stone walls are paired with a bed so comfortable you might find yourself taking multiple naps, while the bathroom, complete with tub, has two sinks and a bathtub. The shape of the unexpectedly modern light fixtures echoes the quiver of arrows Mars might take to battle, but the warmth and comfort of this space encourage a tendency towards peace instead.
A tower room with curved stone walls, Mercure is a space where you’ll truly feel like a knight of old resting from his travails. It’s also the Château’s most accessible room, ideal for those with reduced mobility; it’s situated on the ground floor and has a walk-in shower. A view of the pond and a large arched window in the bathroom flood the space with light and warmth, while the engravings on display show the movement of Mars and Mercury in relation to the Earth.
The duplex-style Été suite is named for summer, reflective of the suite’s color palette, but also the sun that illuminates the upper-floor bedroom from artfully placed skylights. Downstairs, stone walls and an oversized fireplace creates the coziest of retreats, outside your stone terrace and table set the perfect stage for breakfasts in the garden. Small meals can be prepared in the marble covered kitchenette or enjoy a meal from the Château chefs at your living room dining table. Upstairs, a king bed sits below a peaked original wood beamed ceiling, a spacious bathroom has two sinks, a deep tub, and a stand-alone shower.
